Liberatory Leadership Coaching

Supporting space holders, conscious coaches and other online service business owners, to align their values with how they lead.

Liberatory Leadership Coaching is for you if you are a conscious business owner seeking to bring your work into the world through an anti-capitalist lens where both you and your clients get to thrive in sustainable, giving and life-affirming ways.

You have a strong sense of what your values are - and you know what matters to you - but you often feel stuck, overwhelmed or unsure of how to incorporate these values into your business.

Do you also:

  • Crave the capacity to connect your work to something bigger than yourself?

  • Feel caught up in perfectionist tendencies, having tried mindset work but feel there might be something else at play?

  • Have a basic understanding of capitalism, and can feel it’s impacting how you live and run your business, but want to get clearer so you can learn how to challenge it?

  • Often feel isolated, fearful of making wrong decisions, or that you will make things worse?

  • Feel you are behind, and worry that you need to buy more courses/masterminds to figure out how to do business the ‘right way’?

  • Want to make your work financially accessible, while also acknowledging the value of your work and those you may employ or contract?

If any of these feel true, you are not alone.

Hello Lovely, I’m Stephanie MacKinnon

I’m an internationally award-nominated Certified Life and Liberatory Leadership Coach, with an MA in Adult Education and 10+ years of community facilitation experience.

I know what it is like to feel overwhelmed.

Before becoming a coach I worked in the non-profit and community development sector. I loved supporting diverse individuals and communities to overcome challenges and achieve their goals - but the lifestyle ground me down and I burnt out. I was filled with guilt and disconnected from myself.

I can now see that I felt pressure to personally compensate for systemic and capitalist driven shortcomings. Something I am sure many who have worked in community, care, public sector or change work can relate to.

Now I support those who in resisting the individualization of responsibility for the systemic failures of capitalism, often neglect their needs, putting aside their care for the greater good. Yet we see, time and again, how this approach is unsustainable and leads to burnout and an overall dissatisfaction and lack of joy for life.

I support my clients to see that they do not need to choose between change work and their care and that there is another way forward.

I approached Stephanie for guidance in supporting The Beautiful You Coaching Academy to be more financially accessible - while still deeply valuing the work we do. After our first session together I was confident that coaching with Stephanie was the right decision and I quickly felt clear on the steps and action I needed to take. Throughout our coaching Stephanie provided me with confidential and secure support as I navigated the practicalities of implementing changes in our business and some fears I had about doing so too! My team and I are excited about the positive impact my work with Stephanie has brought about. She was clear, supportive, generous and incredibly knowledgeable and I can’t recommend her to other business owners more.

We are presently living under the late stages of capitalism, a system built to make us feel isolated, overwhelmed and disconnected from ourselves and our trust.

Why? In short, these feelings fuel our hyperproductivity and line the pockets of the hyperwealthy.

In other words, capitalism was not designed to support you to feel:

  • Satisfied

  • Joyful

  • Connected

  • Proud

  • Alive

  • Caring

  • Engaged

Because all of these feelings fuel trust in self and give us the energy and will to foster change. The ruling elite has a vested interest in suppressing these feelings to maintain the status quo.

David McNally’s work talks about the notion of the ‘zombie’ as originating from early Haitian critics of capitalism. Before it became co-opted by Hollywood, the zombie represented an exhausted labourer who was just paid enough to survive and numb out, so they could carry on working and building wealth for someone else.

I know you did not go into business to become a zombie, or to perpetuate the dynamics that make others zombies.

So what can you do?

Liberatory Leadership Coaching is here to support you in gaining the knowledge and skill to use your business as a platform for change, to understand how you have internalized capitalism and to resist it in whatever ways you have the capacity for.

All while aligning with your truest values.

It is guided by the principle that meaningful social change requires collective action. We do not need one hero to sweep in and ‘do it all’ but rather that intentional imperfect action from many of us can move mountains.

In particular, Liberatory Leadership Coaching will support you to:

  • Identify and unravel from internalized capitalism

  • Lead authentically, exploring how you can tangibly align your actions with your values

  • Explore how your work can impact wider change

  • Strategically identify where you can have most impact in your work

  • Identify why your care is both radical and required, and can be  incorporated it into your life and business with ease and compassion

  • Nurture relationships that are built in non-transactional, rich and meaningful ways

  • Acknowledge that the oppressive and exploitative conditions of capitalism disproportionately impact marginalized identities which is vital as a conscious business owner to challenge

  • Learn to manage your business in a way that is slower - and therefore infinitely more sustainable

  • Release the idea that you must sacrifice yourself, your well being or your success in order to make your business financially accessible.

The foundation of capitalism is unpaid labor.

One of the most potent ways we can resist this is by ensuring you and those you employ or contract are compensated appropriately for your/their labour.

To rob yourself of this, in an effort to invite others in, builds from a place of scarcity and false dichotomous thinking. And ultimately, even if unintentionally, reinforces capitalism.

Libertory Leadership Coaching is here to support you to step outside this false dichotomy and identify how you can run your business in a way which honours your needs and accessibly invites in others to do the same.

In other words, you do not need to choose between sustaining yourself and accessibly serving your clients.

This work is about more than just mindset and infinite growth. It’s about your business becoming a conduit to creating the change you want to see in the world.

This coaching is right for you if:

  • You are a space holder, coach, mentor, or healer with an online service-based business, who wants to align your values with how you run your business

  • You are done with 5-step plans that promise you XYZ income and know you want to measure your success in different ways

  • You want to deeply learn to trust yourself, releasing the urgency and scarcity that have kept you feeling overwhelmed

  • You want to make space for the messiness of being human within your business and in doing so invite your clients to bravely do the same

  • You want your business to be a vehicle for collective change

  • You want a way forward that makes your work financially accessible AND supports you to build a thriving business.

  • Release the idea that you must sacrifice yourself, your well-being or your success in order to make your business financially accessible.

I am currently dreaming up a pilot program to support conscious business owners  in all of the above and more.

If you would like to be the first to know you can join the interest list here.
